Greenhouse gases

ForFarmers is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. As major player in the agriculture chain ForFarmes has a role to play here.

Limiting greenhouse gas emissions

Producing food has an impact on the environment. As a party in the food production chain, ForFarmers is, therefore, working to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. First of all, we measure our own emissions; such as our use of gas, fuel oil and electricity.

ForFarmers’ energy consumption

ForFarmers is committed to reducing its own energy consumption. For this, we use an energy saving matrix that includes projects aimed at improving energy efficiency. Purchasing energy efficient machines and installations and installing solar panels, are all good examples.

We are also making ongoing critical assessments of our logistics efficiency (transport) and implementing improvements. A prime indicator being the fuel consumption of our own fleet per delivered feed tonne. Examples that contribute to the improvement are bulk trucks with Euro 6 engines, electric lease cars and also we are testing, for example, the possibility of electrically powered bulk trucks.

Emissions in the chain

The production and transportation of raw materials, and the consumption of animal feed, are sources of our greenhouse gas emissions. Measuring these emissions in a comparable and consistent fashion remains a challenge for the whole sector. ForFarmers is actively involved in developing a suitable method for determining the environmental impact.

ForFarmers supplies feed concepts that help farmers reduce their emissions at farm level. We also advise livestock farmers on how to increase production efficiency and thereby reduce greenhouse gas emissions. An example of this is our feed concept, NOVA for sows.

NOVA was developed to ensure exceptionally good development of young sows and top technical results throughout the life of the animals. Better sow productivity leads to more efficient production, is more profitable for the farmer and reduces greenhouse gas emissions. In addition, NOVA is focused on better feed conversion.

Other focus areas

We also focus on the improvement of phosphate efficiency and minimising land use, water and energy.
