Every day, ForFarmers develops practical feed solutions that help make the agricultural sector future-proof. We do this together with partners who take sustainability seriously. By making optimal use of wheat bran and other co-products, we close cycles and demonstrate that chain cooperation works.
Wheat bran is a residual stream that is released when wheat is milled into flour. It is nutritious and an excellent source of fiber for animal feed. ForFarmers NL purchases specific wheat grits from Royal Koopmans. They work with Nedertarwe, grain grown on Dutch soil according to strict sustainability guidelines. As a result, this wheat bran, a residual product of Nedertarwe, have a lower carbon footprint.
We process this residual flow in our feed. In this way, we increase the efficiency of the chain and reduce waste. By choosing raw materials with a lower CO₂ impact and by being transparent about their origin, we help farmers to distinguish themselves in a rapidly changing market. The low CO₂ of wheat bran contributes directly to this.
This approach is in line with our sustainability pillars: reducing CO₂ and scaling up the use of circular raw materials.
Bart Swankhuizen, Director of Purchasing & Formulation at ForFarmers: "Wheat bran are one of the circular raw materials we use in our feed. Together with our partners, we continue to look for new opportunities, for example in Dutch co-products. We want to further expand these types of collaborations. Not only to achieve our own sustainability goals, but above all because it contributes to agriculture that has a future in society."
Bauke Wierda, Sourcing Manager at Royal Koopmans: “With Nedertarwe wheat bran, we are closing a very sustainable cycle. We are proud of this vertical chain collaboration between arable farmers, ForFarmers and our mill. Together, we are increasing the positive impact on Dutch nature. With important products such as bread, biscuits, pasta and now also animal feed.”
