ForFarmers and ADM strengthen collaboration to deliver measurable emissions reductions in feed supply chains and tangible benefits for farmers.
Animal feed plays a key role in the overall footprint of livestock production. Using raw materials with a lower environmental impact supports reductions both within the supply chain and on the farm. ForFarmers has renewed its collaboration with ADM, a supplier of palm kernel expeller with a verified 25% lower CO₂ footprint. This partnership aligns with both companies’ long-term commitment to support farmers and strengthen supply chains through measurable and lasting improvements.
This partnership centers on purchasing palm kernel meal with a demonstrable reduction of 25% in CO₂ emissions compared to conventional alternatives. ADM guarantees these reductions within its own supply chain, providing ForFarmers with reliable, auditable data to support its feed formulations.
Palm kernel expeller, a by-product of palm oil production, provides energy and fiber in animal feed. Its lower CO₂ footprint contributes to reducing the overall emissions of compound feed, directly helping livestock farmers lower their CO₂ per kg of milk or meat. This reduction can translate into tangible benefits for farmers, such as higher premiums for sustainably produced products and improved positioning in increasingly sustainability-driven markets.
ADM sources palm kernel expeller mainly from established, sustainably managed plantations, making the CO₂ impact of this raw material transparent and verifiable. Lower emissions are achieved through ADM’s responsibly sourced PKE program, focusing on supplier engagement and continuous improvement. Specifically, the program assures deforestation-free volumes due to high traceability data and mapping capabilities, which identify priority regions and enable targeted action.
All figures within this partnership are verified using data from the Global Feed LCA Institute (GFLi), an independent international organization that maintains a standardized database on the environmental impacts of animal feed raw materials. This ensures that every ton purchased under this partnership is transparently accounted for in measuring and reducing the footprint across the value chain.
As demand for measurable, verifiable sustainability continues to grow, scale and trusted partnerships become essential. Since last year, ForFarmers has strengthened its strategic partnership with ADM, extending collaboration and increasing guaranteed CO₂ reductions from 20% to 25% with enhanced verification of all data.
“This partnership with ForFarmers demonstrates how verified data, transparency and scale can translate sustainability commitments into real-world impact,” said Emmanuel Lemoine, Vice President, Global Trade, ADM. “By working closely across the supply chain, we are enabling measurable CO₂ reductions while supporting customers and farmers in meeting their sustainability goals.”
Bart Swankhuizen, Procurement & Formulation Director NL at ForFarmers, adds: “This collaboration helps us to make our raw‑materials portfolio even more sustainable and integrate CO₂ reduction into our value chain. This enables us to provide farmers with feed that demonstrably contributes to achieving their climate goals.”
For ForFarmers, this partnership enables the delivery of lower-impact feed solutions at scale, supporting farmers in meeting sustainability targets without compromising performance. For ADM, it reinforces the value of its responsible sourcing programs by translating supply chain improvements into verified, market-ready solutions. Together, ADM and ForFarmers demonstrate how collaboration can drive tangible emission reductions and create shared value across the feed and livestock value chain.
According to the company, ADM is a major player in the global agricultural and feed ingredient markets, with a strong position in commodity supply chains. The company is committed to investing in sustainability and transparent, reliable data on environmental impact. ADM is a valuable partner for ForFarmers, as it can provide sufficient quantities of raw materials with a low carbon footprint, backed by robust evidence. This is essential if we are to make progress towards a more sustainable sector.
